TOCCOA, GA, February 24, 20202 – Our 2019-2020 Night at the Ritz concert series is winding down at the Historic Ritz Theatre but our Ritz Rental shows are gearing up with six performances that will appeal to a wide audience.

Outlaw country and southern rock is coming to the Ritz on March 13th with a concert from Greg Erwin and 200 Proof. Country music legend John Conlee comes to Toccoa on March 19th.  Get ready to sing along to “Sweet Caroline” on April 4th with Cherry Cherry, the definitive Neil Diamond tribute band,  The Atlanta-based Improv Comedy troupe, Dad’s Garage will be with us on April 16th, while CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for Children will be hosting a funding raising event on April 25th with a live performance of Heidi. We finish up on May 2nd with a tribute show to the King of Rock n Roll, Elvis Presley with Steve Petty.

True Grit to Show at the Ritz at 7pm on February 28th

TOCCOA, GA,  February 24, 2020 – The Back in the Saddle western movie series ends at the Historic Ritz Theatre on Friday, February 28th with the John Wayne classic True Grit, showing at 10am and 7pm.

After hired hand Tom Chaney (Jeff Corey) murders the father of 14-year-old Mattie Ross (Kim Darby), she seeks vengeance and hires U.S. Marshal "Rooster" Cogburn (John Wayne), a man of "true grit," to track Chaney into Indian territory. As the two begin their pursuit, a Texas Ranger, La Boeuf (Glen Campbell), joins the manhunt in hopes of capturing Chaney for the murder of a Texas senator and collecting a substantial reward. The three clash on their quest of bringing to justice the same man. This movie is rated G and runs 2 hours and 8 minutes.

Sip-n-Stroll Planned for April 2nd in Downtown Toccoa

TOCCOA, GA – February 24, 2020 – Main Street Toccoa is proud to partner with the local retail businesses in Downtown Toccoa for a Sip-n-Stroll scheduled for Thursday, April 2, 2020 from 6pm to 8pm.

Approximately twelve participating businesses will provide a drink special (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), appetizers, special deals, giveaways, and more. Downtown Toccoa streets will be closed and live music will be offered during the evening.

Main Street Toccoa staff will sell “punch cards” for $10 each. The cards will include your drinks for the evening and other related items. Visit each business and return your “punch card” to Main Street staff for a free prize.

This event is generously sponsored by the businesses of Historic Downtown Toccoa. Main Street Toccoa encourages the community to come out and #ShopSmall by visiting the local retail businesses downtown that contribute to the quality of life in the community.

TOCCOA, GA, February 17, 2020 – We are two movies down and two more to go in our Back in the Saddle western movie series.  Join us Friday, February 21st for a 7pm only showing of the Clint Eastwood classic The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. 

In the Southwest during the Civil War, a mysterious stranger, Joe (Clint Eastwood), and a Mexican outlaw, Tuco (Eli Wallach), form an uneasy partnership -- Joe turns in the bandit for the reward money, then rescues him just as he is being hanged. When Joe's shot at the noose goes awry during one escapade, a furious Tuco tries to have him murdered. The men re-team abruptly, however, to beat out a sadistic criminal and the Union army and find $20,000 that a soldier has buried in the desert.  This movie is rated R and runs 2 hours and 58 minutes.

TFC Jazz and Toccoa Jazz to perform on March 6th

RE: TFC Jazz Band Performs at the Historic Ritz Theatre on March 6

Toccoa, GA – February 17, 2020 – The Toccoa Falls Jazz Band and Toccoa Jazz are going to make you “Jump, Jive, and Wail” on Friday, March 6 at 7pm at the Historic Ritz Theatre.

The TFC Jazz Band, directed by Yuri Henriques and Toccoa Jazz, a subset of the Toccoa Symphony Orchestra, directed by David Stufft, are once again joining forces to bring their “Jazz at the Ritz” performance to Toccoa.

TFC will be playing a wide variety of jazz styles and songs selected from a list of great standards including Cole Porter’s “You’d Be Nice to Come Home To,” and “What Is This Thing Called Love?,” Mongo Santamaria’s “Afro Blue,” and Duke Ellington’s “In a Mellow Tone,” “Caravan,” and “C-Jam Blues.” The Toccoa Jazz performance will feature swing favorites including “Jump, Jive, and Wail,” “American Patrol,” “Jumpin’ at the Woodside,” and much more.  The show closes with both bands performing together, “Without a Song” by Vincent Youmans and “Spain” by Chick Corea. This collaboration is always a crowd favorite.

Jazz at the Ritz is part of our regular Night at the Ritz concert series at the Historic Ritz Theatre. It is funded in part by generous grants received from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Georgia Council for the Arts. Admission is free for this Night at the Ritz performance. The public is invited and no ticket is required.

TOCCOA, GA, February 10 – Treat your Valentine to a movie date at the Historic Ritz Theatre on Friday, February 14th  at 10am and 7pm when Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid ride into town.

 The true story of fast-draws and wild rides, battles with posses, train and bank robberies, a torrid love affair and a new lease on outlaw life in far-away Bolivia. It is also a character study of a remarkable friendship between Butch - possibly the most likeable outlaw in frontier history - and his closest associate, the fabled, ever-dangerous Sundance Kid. This romantic western starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford, and Katherine Ross is rated PG and runs an hour and fifty minutes.

Friends of the Ritz Announces Two Shows for 2020 Season

Toccoa, GA,
The Friends of the Ritz, Inc. announced that it will be sponsoring the organization's first two live performances of 2020.  Atlanta-based improv comedy troupe Dad's Garage will perform an all ages show at the Historic Ritz Theatre on Thursday, April 16th and then on Thursday, September 3rd, noted Emmy-winning actor Bill Oberst Jr. performs his one-man tribute, Lewis Grizzard: In His Own Words.

"After more than seven months of planning and fundraising we are thrilled that Friends of the Ritz can begin fulfilling the mission of our organization, and that is to bring additional programming to the Ritz stage" says Friends of the Ritz, Inc. President Keith Kozicki.

A June 2019 survey conducted by the organization put live theatre and comedy among the top three programming requests.

Tickets for each event will be $15 for Friends of the Ritz members, $17 for the general public and will go on sale in early February. Thanks to a generous private donation Friends of the Ritz will be also be able to offer a discounted $10 ticket for children 12 and under.

The organization held its first quarter Board of Directors meeting followed by the Annual Membership Meeting on Tuesday, January 28th at the Historic Ritz Theatre.

Friends of the Ritz members voted overwhelmingly for the 2020 Friends of the Ritz, Inc. Board of Directors who now include:

Friends of the Ritz, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for additional programming, marketing and building enhancements at the Historic Ritz Theatre. The organization's Annual Membership Meeting Report was also released and is available below.



2019 Annual Report

  • Friends of the Ritz, Inc. receives official IRS notification of 501(c)(3) status on July 22, 2019

  • Fundraising activities begin during the summer of 2019 and included membership acquisition activity and planning for a major fall event

  • Friends of the Ritz, Inc. bank account and PO Box established

  • 80 for 80 Celebration marking the 80th anniversary of the Ritz Theatre in Toccoa is held on November 22nd raising over $4,000 via event ticket sales, regular memberships and special 80 for 80 membership donations, as well as corporate sponsorship

  • $1000 raised via corporate sponsorships

  • December 2019 - Contracts signed for two separate 2020 Friends of the Ritz-sponsored live performances

  • December 2019 – 65 active Friends of the Ritz members

  • December 31, 2019 – $6,361.36 cash on hand

  • Board of Directors public meetings held January 28th, June 22nd, September 14th, and December 10th of 2019  

Proposed 2020 Goals:

- Increase membership to over 100 active members

- Double corporate sponsorships to $2,000

- Present at least three Friends of the Ritz-sponsored live performances,
  including one that also serves as a major fundraising event

- Establish active Membership & Programming Committees

- Begin postcard membership acquisition campaign

- Create bi-annual membership newsletters

Tombstone to Show on February 7th at 10am and 7pm

Toccoa, GA, January 31, 2020- Giddy up to the Historic Ritz Theatre on Friday, February 7th for the first movie of our Western Series, the 1993 hit, Tombstone. Show times are at 10am and 7pm.

Wyatt Earp (Kurt Russell) and his brothers, Morgan (Bill Paxton) and Virgil (Sam Elliott), have left their gunslinger ways behind them to settle down and start a business in the town of Tombstone, Ariz. While they aren't looking to find trouble, trouble soon finds them when they become targets of the ruthless Cowboy gang. Now, together with Wyatt's best friend, Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer), the brothers pick up their guns once more to restore order to a lawless land.  The movie is rated R with a run time of 2 hours and 10 minutes.

Movies in our Western Movie Series were chosen through online voting. The rest of the February line- up includes Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, and True Grit.
