TOCCOA, GA, January 25, 2021 – Flowers and candy are nice, but the Historic Ritz Theatre can, “Put Your Love in Lights.”

Show your Valentine, and the whole city, just what he or she means to you. Twenty dollars gets you a personalized message on our beautiful marquee. Messages will be included on the Ritz marquee from Friday, February 12^th through Sunday, February 14^th and can be up to three lines. Your cash, check, and message can be dropped off at the drive-thru at City Hall, 92 N Alexander St. or mailed to The Ritz Theatre PO Box 579, Toccoa, GA 30577 no later than February 11^th.

Toccoa, GA, January 25, 2021, – Batter up!  Our Take Me Out to the Ballgame…Sliding Into Spring Movie Series at the Historic Ritz Theatre begins Friday, February 5^th at 10:00 am and 7:00pm with the 2002 award-winner, The Rookie.

The Rookie tells the true story of a coach who discovers that it's never too late for dreams to come true. Jim Morris (Dennis Quaid) never made it out of the minor leagues before a shoulder injury ended his pitching career twelve years ago. Now a married-with-children high-school chemistry teacher and baseball coach in Texas, Jim's team makes a deal with him: if they win the district championship, Jim will try out with a major-league organization. The movie is rated G and also stars Rachel Griffiths and Angus T. Jones.

As always our movie tickets and concessions are just $1 each. Virtual Main Street Awards Announced for January 28, 2021

Main Street Awards

TOCCOA, GA, January 21, 2021 –The Toccoa Main Street Program will hold its annual Main Street Awards Program on Thursday, January 28, 2021.  The program will be held virtually for the first time.  It will consist of a Volunteer Recognition Ceremony and an Awards Program beginning at 6:00 p.m. Viewers can watch the premier showing on facebook.com/mainstreettoccoa.com or can search for it on YouTube at Main Street Toccoa.

The Downtown Development Authority will review 2020 downtown revitalization efforts during the program.  They will also present awards to downtown business owners, property owners, and volunteers who have exemplified outstanding service and investment in the downtown area. 

“Although this year’s format will be different for our awards program, it is still a great opportunity to see tangible evidence of the businesses created, jobs added, and lives affected through the economic development efforts directed downtown,” stated Christian Hamilton, Main Street Manager. “We always look forward to seeing our downtown represented well.”

RE: Ritz Presents the Take Me Out to the Ballgame…Sliding Into Spring Movie Series

Toccoa, GA, January 19, 2021, – Grab some peanuts and Cracker Jacks and get ready for the Take Me Out to the Ballgame…Sliding Into Spring Movie Series at the Historic Ritz Theatre. Enjoy a classic baseball movie, voted on by you, every Friday in February, beginning February 5^th at 10:00 am and 7:00pm.

On line voting has ended and the results have been tallied. The 2002 feel-good film The Rookie starring Dennis Quaid and Rachel Griffiths will kick-off our series on February 5^th.  Academy award nominee Field of Dreams is on deck for February 12^th.  Rounding out our line-up will be Angels In the Outfield, on the 19^th and the comedy classic, Major League on the 26^th.

Milkshake Mayfield Show Cancelled

RE: Milkshake Mayfield show cancelled

Toccoa, GA – January 15, 2021 – Local favorite and jazz extraordinaire Milkshake Mayfield, has made the tough decision to cancel his February 18^th Night at the Ritz performance due to concerns over the on-going corona virus pandemic.

Night at the Ritz, a regular event series at the Historic Ritz Theatre, is funded, in part, by a generous grant received from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Georgia Council for the Arts. Any tickets purchased for Milkshake Mayfield have been refunded. We look forward to having Milkshake at the 2021 Ida Cox Music Series and back at the theatre in 2022.

Final Open Mic Monday Competition Scheduled for January 18th at 7pm

RE: Historic Ritz Theatre hosts final Open Mic Monday competition

 Toccoa, GA – The fourth and final winner of this year’s Open Mic Monday competitions will be crowned on Monday, January 18th at 7:00pm. Due to unforeseen circumstances the original December date was postponed.  Our Wild Card competition welcomes solo artists, duets, trios, and/or bands from any genre of music.

It’s not too late to sign up. Interested performers can sign up by email at ritztheatretoccoa@gmail.com or at the Historic Ritz Theatre on the evening of the show on a first-come, first-up basis starting at 6:15pm.

 

Winners from each of the monthly competitions will receive $50 and a paid gig at the summer 2021 Ida Cox Music Festival. They are also invited back on February 15^th to perform in a Winners’ Showcase.  Open Mic Monday is a free event to the contestants and to the public.
