Toccoa, GA, February 22, 2021, – We are headed for home in our Take Me Out to the Ballgame…Sliding Into Spring Movie Series at the Historic Ritz Theatre with Major League showing Friday, February 26th at 10:00 am and 7:00pm.

The new owner of the Cleveland Indians, former showgirl Rachel Phelps (Margaret Whitton), has a sweetheart deal to move the team to Miami. But to break the lease with the city of Cleveland, ticket sales have to plummet. So Phelps hires the most incompetent players available, including near-blind pitcher Rick Vaughn (Charlie Sheen) and injury-prone catcher Jake Taylor (Tom Berenger). But her villainous tactics accidentally foster a can-do team spirit, turning the Indians into potential winners. This movie is Rated R

Toccoa, GA, February 15, 2021, – We have rounded second and are headed to third in our Take Me Out to the Ballgame…Sliding Into Spring Movie Series at the Historic Ritz Theatre with Angels In The Outfield showing Friday, February 19th at 10:00 am and 7:00pm

Foster kid Roger (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) loves the Anaheim Angels, even though they're the worst team in the major leagues. His estranged dad promises to reunite the family if the Angels make it to the World Series, so Roger decides to ask for some divine help and prays that his favorite team will turn things around. Soon, a real angel named Al (Christopher Lloyd) shows up in response to Roger's prayers, and Anaheim's hopeless coach (Danny Glover) is shocked to see his team on a winning streak. The movie is rated PG.

Open Mic Monday Winners' Showcase Scheduled for February 15th

Winners’ Showcase Open Mic Monday 

Toccoa, GA February 8, 2021 – The monthly competitions are over and our Winners’ Showcase is set to take place on Monday, February 15th at 7:00pm at the Historic Ritz Theatre.

 

Returning to the stage to entertain the audience will be Michael McCullough, winner of the first month’s Rock competition; Carrie Bowen Sams who took home the prize in the Singer/Songwriter category; Konner Clark, winner of the November Country Music competition; and Wild Card winner Yonah Mountain String Band.

 

The public is invited to come out and enjoy a night of great music and support local entertainers. Each winner will also be performing at this summer’s Ida Cox Music Series. Both Open Mic Monday and Ida Cox are free events.

Main Street Awards

TOCCOA, GA, February 2, 2021 –The Toccoa Main Street Program held its annual Main Street Awards Program on Thursday, January 28, 2021at 6:00 pm.  The program was held virtually for the first time. Viewers were able to watch the premier showing on facebook.com/mainstreettoccoa.com or on YouTube at Main Street Toccoa.

The Downtown Development Authority reviewed their 2020 downtown revitalization efforts during the program.  They also presented awards to downtown business owners, property owners, and volunteers who have exemplified outstanding service and investment in the downtown area.

Toccoa, GA, February 1, 2021, – Batter up!  Our Take Me Out to the Ballgame…Sliding Into Spring Movie Series at the Historic Ritz Theatre begins Friday, February 5th at 10:00 am and 7:00pm with the 2002 award-winner, The Rookie, followed on Friday, February 12th with Field of Dreams.

When Iowa farmer Ray hears a mysterious voice one night in his cornfield saying "If you build it, he will come," he feels the need to act. Despite taunts of lunacy, Ray builds a baseball diamond on his land, supported by his wife, Annie. Afterward, the ghosts of great players start emerging from the crops to play ball, led by "Shoeless" Joe Jackson. But, as Ray learns, this field of dreams is about much more than bringing former baseball greats out to play. The movie is rated PG and stars Kevin Costner, Ray Liotta, James Earl Jones, and Amy Madigan.
