RE: Lightwire Theater Returns To The Ritz on Thursday, September 26th, 2019

Toccoa, GA – August 26, 2019 –With a little science and a little magic, Lightwire Theater will bring to life a friendly dinosaur right here in Toccoa. Follow him on his adventures through the darkness on Thursday, September 26th, 7pm at the Historic Ritz Theatre.

DINO-LIGHT, formerly known as Darwin the Dinosaur, was the recipient of the prestigious Jim Henson Foundation Grant and is the first feature-length theatrical production created and performed by creators Ian Carney and Corbin Popp.

This glow-in-the-dark adventure is visually stunning and has been praised for its cutting edge blend of puppetry, technology, and dance by audiences all over the world.

Lightwire Theater is most famous for their semi-finalist win on America’s Got Talent and as a winner of TruTV’s Fake-Off.  The show is family-friendly and takes place in complete darkness.

Night at the Ritz, a regular event series at the Historic Ritz Theatre, is funded, in part, by a generous grant received from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Georgia Council for the Arts. Tickets for all shows may be purchased online at www.ritztheatretoccoa.com, at Eventbrite.com, or at the Toccoa Welcome Center. RE: The Historic Ritz Theatre Presents Parallel Love: The Story of a Band called LUXURY

Toccoa, GA – August 12, 2019 - Main Street Toccoa is pleased to announce the one-night-only showing of Parallel Love: The Story of a Band Called Luxury on Friday, August 30, at 7pm, followed by a Q&A session with the band.

The feature film documents the rise and devastating fall of Luxury, a band formed in Toccoa, GA at Toccoa Falls College in the 1990’s. While on tour, and on the cusp of success, the band was involved in a wreck with long-term consequences.

In the intervening years, they continue to make records and three members become Eastern Orthodox priests. Through interviews and archival footage, Parallel Love tells the poignant and gripping story of Luxury and documents the making of a new record, now as priests.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under and students with an ID, and may be purchased either online, at the Toccoa Welcome Center, or at the box office.

RE: The Historic Ritz Theatre Welcomes Back Open Mic Monday

Toccoa, GA – August 12, 2019 – Are you a little bit country, a little bit rock n roll, or something in between?  If so, it’s time to showcase your talents at the Third Season of Open Mic Monday at The Historic Ritz Theatre. The competition will begin on Monday, September 16 at 7pm and continue on the third Monday of each month through December, culminating in a Winners’ Showcase in January.

This year’s competition will differ from previous years with each month featuring a different category for the competitors.  September will be reminiscent of The Voice with solo artists using only guitar or music they provide on a jump drive as accompaniment. October will be filled with pickin’ and grinnin’ for Bluegrass night. November lets competitors flex their singing and songwriting muscle by using only original material. December brings the Battle of the Bands. The winners from each month will be brought back in January for a Talent Showcase.

Each month contestants can play up to two songs or for ten minutes. Winners are chosen from a panel of three judges and are awarded $50 plus a paid gig at the Ida Cox Music Series in the summer of 2020.

The monthly competitions are limited to 10 contestants each. Registration is free and competitors can sign up either at the door, no later than 6pm the day of show, or on-line at ritztheatretoccoa@gmail.com.

For more information on the performance, please contact Ritz Theatre General Manager Tami Mayhugh at tmayhugh@cityoftoccoa.com or via phone at 706.244.0039.
