RE: Summer movies return to the Historic Ritz Theatre

Toccoa, GA  May 28- School is out and it’s time to start your summer adventures with trolls and elves.  Be at the Historic Ritz Theatre on Thursday, June 3rd at 10:00am & 7:00pm for Trolls World Tour and be back on Thursday, June 10th for Onward.

Trolls World Tour follows Poppy and Branch as they discover that there are six different troll tribes scattered over six different lands. Each tribe is also devoted to six different kinds of music.  This movie stars the voices of Justin Timberlake, Anna Kendrick, and Kelly Clarkson.

On June 10th, join teenage elf brothers Ian and Barley as they embark on a magical quest to spend one more day with their late father in the movie Onward.  Both movies are rated PG.

Main Street Toccoa Receives 2021 National Main Street Accreditation

Receives 2021 National Main Street Accreditation

Toccoa, GA – May 26th, 2021 -- Main Street Toccoa has been designated as an accredited Main Street™ program for meeting rigorous performance standards. Each year, Main Street America and its partners announce the list of accredited programs to recognize their exceptional commitment to preservation-based economic development and community revitalization through the Main Street Approach™.

“We are proud to recognize this year’s 889 nationally accredited Main Street programs that have worked tirelessly to advance economic vitality and quality of life in their downtowns and commercial districts,” said Patrice Frey, President & CEO of Main Street America. “During an incredibly challenging year, these programs demonstrated the power of the Main Street movement to drive impressive local recovery efforts, champion small businesses, and foster vibrant downtown districts. I am inspired by their hard work and confident that these accredited communities will continue to help their downtowns flourish in the next stages of recovery.”

In 2020, Main Street America programs generated $4.14 billion in local reinvestment, helped open 4,356 net new businesses, generated 14,988 net new jobs, catalyzed the rehabilitation of 8,488 historic buildings, and clocked 983,702 volunteer hours.  

Main Street Toccoa’s performance is annually evaluated by Georgia Main Street, based in the Georgia Department of Community Affairs’ Office of Downtown Development, which works in partnership with Main Street America to identify the local programs that meet 10 national performance standards. Evaluation criteria determines the communities that are building meaningful and sustainable revitalization programs and include standards such as, fostering strong public-private partnerships, documenting programmatic progress, and actively preserving historic buildings.

In 2020, despite the advent of the COVID-19 Pandemic, Main Street Toccoa was proud to see $3,519,877 in public and private investment efforts downtown. Over 45,000 individuals took part in Main Street events, and the downtown district saw a net increase in 16 jobs.

“We are thankful to be accredited once again by Main Street America,” said Marilyn Hall, Chairman of the Downtown Development Authority. “Main Street Toccoa is the heart and soul of the community, and its efforts in 2020 were vital in helping to weather the COVID-19 pandemic.” Added Chairman Hall, “We’d like to encourage you to come downtown and visit us this year.”

Summer Movies Return to Historic Downtown Toccoa!

Historic Ritz Theatre

Toccoa, GA  May 24 - Mark your calendars for Thursdays in June and July at the Historic Ritz Theatre with the return of our Summer Movie Series starting Thursday, June 3rd with show times at 10:00am and 7:00pm.

This year’s series kicks off with Trolls World Tour, featuring the voices of Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake, followed on the 10th by Onward, The War With Grandpa on the 17th, and Toy Story 4 on the 24th.  Movies will continue in July with Wonder Woman 1984 on the 1st, SCOOB!  on the 8th, followed by The Croods: A New Age on the 15th, Tad the Lost Explorer and the Secret of King Midas the 22nd, and ending with Cats and Dogs 3: Paws Unite on the 29th.

Toccoa, GA – May 10, 2021- Our 2020-2021 Night at the Ritz Series ends Saturday, May 15th with a sold-out show of the much anticipated Fleetwood Max: The Definitive Fleetwood Mac Tribute.

Fleetwood Max is an authentic recreation of the music, magic, and incredible stage production of the legendary Stevie Nicks & Fleetwood Mac at the height of their careers. The Fleetwood Max experience captures the mystical atmosphere, look, and sound of these enigmatic Rock and Roll Hall of Famers with outstanding vocal and character performances from a cast of the most respected, professional, touring musicians on the United States East Coast. Each member is dedicated to, and passionate about, providing the most accurate and personalized recreation of the magic that is Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks, while replicating the very best of every live performance.

Stevie Nicks look-a-like /sound-a-like, lead vocalist Sharon Epperson is nearly indistinguishable in every move, look, and impassioned vocal.  David Epperson hypnotizes audiences when he takes the stage as Lindsey Buckingham, demonstrating inspired, accomplished guitar and vocal veracity during group performances including “Go Your Own Way”, and acoustic solo flair with a rarely seen live, spot on, note for note performance of the crowd favorite, “Big Love.”

Toast of Toccoa Returns on May 8th

Toccoa, GA, April 27, 2021 – The fourth annual Toast of Toccoa will be held Saturday, May 8 from 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm in downtown Toccoa.

Artists’ booths, area wineries, and food vendors will once again line Doyle Street from Hill St. to Sage St.

Tickets for beer and wine samples can be purchased at the tent at the corner of Doyle Street and Sage Street. Toast of Toccoa t-shirts will be available there for $15. ID’s will be checked at the ticket booth before tickets can be purchased. Beer and wine open containers will not be allowed outside of the festival area.

Wine will be located on Doyle Street from Sage Street to Pond Street and will offer wine tastings. Bottles of wine can be purchased as well. Currahee Vineyards will be selling their popular wines at the same location.

The entertainment stage will be located at the intersection of Sage Street and Tugalo Street. Grassland Strings Band will perform from 12 – 3:00 pm and Dirty Roots Band will be on stage from 3:30 – 6 p.m.

Downtown restaurants will be open featuring their specialty food items for sale as well as four food trucks.

Artisans from the Currahee Artists Guild and other regional arts organizations will display their artwork in separate booths set up throughout the downtown area. Visitors will be able to talk one-on-one with the individual artist about their particular work and will be able to purchase selected works of art.
