RE: Historic Plaque Ceremony Held at X-Factor Grill
on September 6, 2018
TOCCOA,
GA
– The first historic plaque in the 2018 – 2019 series of plaques dedicated to
downtown buildings was unveiled on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 5 p.m., at the
X-Factor Grill, located at 27 East Doyle Street, celebrating the legacy of
McNeely & Company.
The ceremony brought out a large crowd, including
members of the McNeely family, city officials, including Mayor David Austin,
members of the Toccoa Historic Preservation Commission, members of the Toccoa
Planning Commission, and historically-minded local citizens. Poignant stories
were told about McNeely & Company and its founder, and the community came
together to celebrate this very special occasion.
The historic
plaque program highlights historic buildings in Toccoa, and the remaining
plaques are set to follow each month. Once all plaques have been installed, they
will be added to Main Street Toccoa’s Historic Walking Tour Guide. The next
historic plaque will be unveiled on October 4, 2018 at 114/118 North Sage
Street to celebrate the history of the Standard Telephone Company office.
The Main Street Office is happy to answer any
questions regarding the Historic Plaque Program. Please contact Christian
Hamilton at 706.898.5777 for inquiries.
