RE: Rural Zone Lunch-n-Learn Scheduled
Toccoa, Georgia – July 9, 2018 – Main Street Toccoa is
pleased to announce that it has scheduled a lunch-n-learn regarding its new
Rural Zone designation, to take place on July 25, 2018 at noon at Tugalo
Station in Downtown Toccoa.
In 2018, Main Street Toccoa was one of the first nine
downtowns in the State of Georgia to garner a Rural Zone designation. This
designation, applied exclusively to the Main Street District, gives downtown
business and property owners special Rural Zone tax credits for investing in
the downtown area. Three types of tax credits may be acquired: A job tax
credit, worth $2,000 a year per full-time equivalent job created within the
Rural Zone; an investment tax credit, worth up to $125,000 claimed over five
years, capped at 25% of the total investment cost; and a rehabilitation tax
credit, worth up to $150,000 claimed over three years, capped at 30% of the
total investment cost. Other details apply.
These tax credits are available to all businesses located
within the Toccoa Rural Zone. Main Street Toccoa encourages all downtown
business owners to attend the lunch-n-learn and find out how they can take
advantage of this valuable opportunity. Representatives from the Georgia
Department of Community Affairs will be in attendance to answer any questions
that may be asked.
Tugalo Station is located at 67 East Tugalo Street in the
former storefront of Downtown Flowers. The lunch-n-learn will begin promptly at
noon on July 25, 2018. It is free to attend.

RE: Railway Viewing Platform Ribbon Cutting
Toccoa, Georgia – June
20, 2018 – Main Street Toccoa is pleased to announce that the official
ribbon cutting for the Historic Train Depot Railway Viewing Platform will be
held on June 30, 2018 in conjunction with Toccoa Train Day.
Occurring at 11am at the Railway Viewing Platform, the ribbon
cutting will celebrate the installation of the viewing platform as a new
tourism product in Historic Downtown Toccoa.
The idea for the construction of the Railway Viewing
Platform came from a report presented in September 2017 by a Resource Team from
the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD). Because the City of
Toccoa received a visit and report from GDEcD, it is eligible to apply for
Tourism product Development (TPD) grant funding on a regular basis, which was
successfully awarded earlier this year.
“We are thankful to have the support of GDEcD in the
implementation of our vision for Historic Downtown Toccoa,” said City of Toccoa
Main Street Manager, Christian Hamilton. “Their report and grant funding has
allowed the City of Toccoa to invest in valuable tourism resources in the
community, which began with the installation of Downtown Wayfinding Signage in
2016 and continues with the official ribbon cutting for our new Railway Viewing
Platform on June 30.”
Main Street Toccoa and the City of Toccoa will continue to
utilize the information presented in the Resource Team’s Report in the planning
for future beautification efforts in Downtown Toccoa. This report may be found
in its entirety online at http://www.mainstreettoccoa.com/userfiles/File/2017-TPD-Team-Report.PDF.
For more information about the ribbon cutting or Railway
Viewing Platform, please contact Christian Hamilton at 706.898.5777.
