RE: The Historic Ritz Theatre Welcomes Millennial

Toccoa, GA – February 11, 2019 – Main Street Toccoa is pleased to welcome Indie/Pop group Millennial to the Ritz Theatre on Friday, March 8th at 7pm.

Charlotte, NC-based Millennial is a group who, true to their Generation Y character, have begun to forge their path with confident, self-expressive, upbeat music that is created with the notion to "make a change." Their storylines and melodies are in keeping with the contemporary work product of
alt/rock/pop groups One Republic, The Killers and Moon Taxi, and a 70s flashback to Elton John’s
visionary penmanship infused by a psychedelic space reminiscent of Pink Floyd. Millennial is comprised of Rodney Eldridge (lead vocals), Logan Fincher (lead guitarist) and Jon Hussey (drums).

Night at the Ritz, a regular event series at the Historic Ritz Theatre, is funded by generous grants
received from the National Endowment for the Arts, Georgia Council for the Arts, and South Arts. Tickets for all shows may be purchased online at www.ritztheatretoccoa.com, or at the Toccoa Welcome Center. Adult tickets are $10, children under 12 and students with an ID are $5. Doors open at 6:30.

RE: Historic Plaque Ceremony Held at Oconee Federal Savings & Loan

TOCCOA, GA – The sixth historic plaque in the 2018 – 2019 series of plaques dedicated to downtown buildings was unveiled on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at 5 p.m., at Oconee Federal Savings & Loan on the corner of Doyle Street and Pond Street in recognition of the history of Stephens Federal Savings & Loan.

The plaque ceremony was attended by Oconee Federal staff, city staff, local historically-minded citizens, and downtown businesses owners. The property was originally the home of First United Methodist Church, constructed between 1896 and 1897. In 1958, the property became home to Stephens Federal Savings & Loan Association. Several interesting stories were discussed regarding the property, including the technical savvy of the new “Ident-TT” sign installed in 1963, the state-of-the-art solar shades, and more. The next historic plaque dedication will take place at the American Legion building on Doyle Street with a date to be announced.

The historic plaque program highlights historic buildings in Toccoa, and the remaining plaques are set to follow each month. Once all plaques have been installed, they will be added to Main Street Toccoa’s Historic Walking Tour Guide.

The Main Street Office is happy to answer any questions regarding the Historic Plaque Program. Please contact Christian Hamilton at 706.898.5777 for inquiries.
